Hi, I’m Rebekah Charlton.
I’m an Active Living and Wellness Coach, and I’ve been working as a group fitness instructor for over 25 years.
From the very beginning of my career, I knew I wanted to work with people who are often overlooked in the fitness industry—older adults and those experiencing mental health challenges—rather than focusing on traditional gym environments.
Over the years, I’ve taught a wide range of class styles, from freestyle step and Les Mills to Tai Chi, Zumba, Yoga, and now SuperCue. As an independent instructor, I developed the skills and experience to design programmes that are not only effective, but adaptable, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Working consistently with older adults has shaped my approach. I saw firsthand that many instructors struggled to engage this group in a way that was respectful and empowering. Too often, the tone could feel patronising or limiting. That insight fuelled my passion to create and deliver programmes that build people up—helping participants recognise what they can do, and inspiring them to keep improving.
During my time as Community Services Manager for Enliven, this strength-based approach became central to programme delivery, supporting positive outcomes for hundreds of weekly attendees. Later, as a Lead Agent for the Live Stronger for Longer initiative, I assessed both the quantity and quality of class provision across Tairāwhiti and Hawke’s Bay. This gave me valuable insight into the challenges instructors face—particularly the isolation of working independently while trying to stay fresh, creative, and aligned with best practice.
It was during this time that I connected with Marya, whose teaching approach strongly aligned with my own values.
SuperCue was born from a shared vision: to support instructors with high-quality, thoughtfully designed programmes, while also offering older adults accessible, empowering exercise—whether in the community or online.
Alongside SuperCue, I run yoga classes and offer Wellness Coaching from my studio, Halcyon Wellness, in Tararua.
What I love most about teaching is the feeling at the end of a class—when participants leave smiling. They’re worked, yet satisfied; tired, yet energised. They feel seen, supported, and proud of what they’ve achieved. That trust they place in me is something I value deeply, and it continues to drive my commitment to delivering meaningful exercise experiences.
There’s also something special about the SuperCue journey. When a new programme begins, it can feel a little unfamiliar as everyone learns together. But within a few weeks, something shifts—the room moves in sync, confidence grows, and the energy lifts. You can’t help but smile. And the participants feel it too. They notice when their balance improves, when they complete every squat, or when a routine finally clicks.
I’ve seen the profound difference that thoughtful, engaging instruction can make in the lives of older adults. When people understand how their bodies move, they don’t just exercise more safely—they gain confidence to do more in everyday life.
That’s what drives me. I want to share what I’ve learned over the years and support other instructors to deliver safe, effective, and uplifting SuperCue classes.
Because one day, we’ll be the ones in the class—and I want to be taught in a way that empowers, energises, and keeps me coming back for more.

Kia ora! I'm Marya Hopman and I am a personal trainer and corrective exercise specialist with my own fitness studio OptimalMe Fitness in Hawkes Bay.
I may be described as a "gym owner" but I’m definitely not a gym person. I'm interested in helping people to live an active life, free from pain and confident to do whatever it is they want to do.
I retrained as a personal trainer in 2010 because I was looking for a career that would be better for my own health, rather than being stuck behind a desk. I'd heard the industry was looking for trainers that a wider range of people could relate to. As an “older” woman who wasn’t a fitness fanatic, and as a person who loves to help people, I fit the bill!
Within a year I was awarded Personal Trainer of the Year at CityFitness in Napier for my quality programming and outstanding results. Surprisingly I had found my purpose!
My fitness experience now includes being a Rehab Trainer, Nordic Walking Instructor, Counterpunch Parkinsons’ Instructor, Gravity Instructor and Les Mills Body Balance Instructor.
My passion is corrective exercise and working with people who have aches, pains and physical limitations, empowering them with tools and knowledge to self help their recovery and fitness journey.
Incredibly, a commonly missing element in exercise is a level of instruction that resonates with the non-fitness professional (and actually the fitness professional as well), so they gain a deeper understanding of what it feels like to sit, stand and move well. And yet this simple difference makes all the difference in the results we can achieve as instructors. I believe it is critical that the fitness industry and people of all ages and fitness levels sit up and take notice - we all need to get better at getting the basics right.
That’s where SuperCue comes in. Bec and I recognised the need for better exercise options for the over 65s. We wanted to offer a service that was all encompassing - providing fun, effective and highly educational exercise programmes for older adults, while also supporting trainers by providing them with fully choreographed programmes. We want to show how working with our older population can be invigorating, exciting and rewarding.
Combining my own skills and strengths with Bec’s choreography and her extensive experience working with older adults, gives us really well rounded programmes that have great music, great moves and great learning points. I wouldn’t get that on my own.
I love the fact I now have a selection of really fun carefully constructed programmes that I can choose from every week. We also teach you how you can vary a routine from week to week by simply having a different focus or making a few minor changes to keep the routines fresh and progressive. We show how between tracks you can spend a little more time on discussing key movements and how they apply to day-to-day living.
All together that is the SuperCue difference!
